Due to the current state of the world I decided to take some time and go through my computer, folder by folder and organize a bit. Doing this has allowed me to remaster and rediscover a lot of pictures and videos of mine. I even stumbled across some footage I thought I had lost.
This footage was from a few summers ago. I don’t think it was the longest day of the year, but definitely one of the longer summer days for sure. I had arrived in Portsmouth just after first light, but before the sun itself had popped out from the horizon. I had lots of camera gear and all of the batteries I could muster. You see, the plan was to get a time-lapse from sunrise to sunset. Not sure why I chose one of the longest hottest days, but that’s what I get for only planning a few days ahead.
Once the camera was setup, there wasn’t much for me to do other than make sure the camera stayed powered on and had enough space on the memory card. So I sat there and watched the world wake up around me. I watched as the lobster boats left their docks. I watched as a mother goose guided her little babies along the shoreline. I watched as the park arts staff started to assemble the stage for future shows.
I wasn’t too far into the morning when I found myself scrolling through my newsfeed. That is when I found out the news. The news of someone that had had great influence in my life, especially when it came to travel, had died. The cause, suicide. This put my brain into a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions.
I didn’t stop with my project, but as I sat there watching time pass by, I couldn’t help but run through my travel memories. I thought to myself, would I end up down the same path? Where did he go wrong? Why didn’t he ask for help? My memories coming and going with nearly every blink of an eye.
This video is a small snippet of how those travel memories ran though my head as I sat watching the day pass by.
